About Us
During our company's history, Kroll has helped organizations all over the world by serving as a single-source solution for detecting potential risks in critical areas such as employment, due diligence, vendor selection, identity theft prevention and assistance, investment placement, and institutional admissions. We recognize that including an effective pre-employment screening program as part of a comprehensive risk mitigation plan is integral to the success and safety of any workplace. From traditional background checks to specialized searches, Kroll’s services can be tailored to meet the needs of any organization. As a testament to our global capabilities thousands of organizations worldwide, from small businesses to Fortune 500's, rely on the Background Screening division of Kroll.
In August 2010, Altegrity, an international leader in security and information technology, acquired Kroll Inc. With the addition of Kroll, Altegrity is now a family of companies comprising the largest commercial provider of background investigations for the federal government (USIS); a trusted supplier of on-demand employment background screening to roughly 40 percent of the Fortune 500 (HireRight); one of the principal sources of data services to the insurance industry (Explore); and a leading provider of investigative, analytic, risk consulting, litigation support, due diligence and security services to organizations around the world (Kroll).
The complementary practices of Kroll’s employment screening business and HireRight made them a natural fit to integrate. Together, the organizations bring together the best in technology, screening expertise, global reach, customer commitment, and solution breadth.
Kroll pioneered Internet-based background screening services and continues to lead the industry in technology offerings. Our legal team actively advises our operations and quality assurance personnel regarding whether a background report is legally reportable and has developed unique compliance tools to assist our valued clientele.
Kroll has been certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce as Safe Harbor compliant, indicating we meet the privacy protection standards of the European Commission on personal data transferred from Europe to the United States. All background reports are conducted in compliance with the EU Directive 95/46/EC, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act in Canada, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act in the United States.
The Background Screening division of Kroll strives to maintain a reputation as a world-class organization. We are a founding member of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), and a good standing member of the Better Business Bureau Online (BBBOnline), the Human Resource Professionals of Ontario (HRPAO), and other industry organizations worldwide.
