Corporate Citizenship and Social Responsibility

Since our founding in 1972, Kroll has cemented our business practices in underlying values such as integrity and respect. Today, we continue to believe that our commitment to these values comes with a responsibility to contribute to the public good.

Kroll is extending its contributions to the public good through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The initiative is designed to ensure that the company continues to embody the principles of corporate responsibility both through the services we provide and the manner in which we conduct business.

Within our Background Screening division, we’ve found many ways to support this initiative:

Careers Development Group
Kroll's Background Screening division in the UK is working with Careers Development Group (CDG), a non-governmental organization that helps long-term unemployed people take advantage of job opportunities. In September of 2007, Kroll attended the Argus Jobs fair in Brighton, England. Prior to the fair, Kroll participated in an event called "Career Moves," which provides practical CV advice and includes interview, customer service, and self presentation workshops for job seekers.

Non-profit assistance
Background Screening is continuing its program of providing free background checks to several non-profit organizations. As part of this commitment, we provide free background checks to the following organizations:

  • Gilda’s Club – Gilda’s Club provides meeting places where men, women and children living with cancer and their families and friends join with others to build emotional and social support as a supplement to medical care.

  • Make a Wish Foundation – This organization grants wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

  • Our Kids, Inc. – Our Kids, Inc. provides medical and psychological services for children who may have experienced sexual abuse; and seeks to increase community awareness, conduct research, and offer education and training about child maltreatment.

American Diabetes Association’s Walk on the Wild Side
Kroll is committed to raising awareness and funding for the American Diabetes Association. Our employees have supported the ADA throughout the calendar year through their donations and interest in participating in Step Out events. Bolstered by generous donations, employees from the Nashville office have walked in these events in support of finding a cure for diabetes.

Green Projects
Kroll has a proud history of service and commitment to the communities in which we operate and where our employees live and work. As part of this initiative to be a good corporate citizen, internal employee committees across Kroll have identified areas in which we can further reduce our environmental footprint and promote ecologically friendly business practices. Our Background Screening division realized that we can significantly reduce paper usage by transitioning to electronic invoice delivery. What is more, Kroll's online solution allows us to receive reporting requests, as well as provide reporting results paperlessly, via our secure system. We have also implemented a recycling program at our new corporate headquarters. These along with future Green Friendly projects are intended to help Background Screening think and embrace an environmentally sound workplace.

Nashville Dragon Boat Festival
Kroll participated in the 2nd Annual Dragon Boat & River Festival in downtown Nashville on August 23, 2008. The event was held to raise money and awareness for the Cumberland River Compact and the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association. Both organizations seek to preserve, protect and restore Tennessee waterways. Overall, the Kroll team, comprising 23 team-members from various departments, finished 12th out of 37 teams.

On August 25, 2007, Kroll participated in the 1st Annual Dragon Boat & River Festival in downtown Nashville. Kroll joined thirty-four other area teams in the dragon boat race, which supported cleanup efforts for the Cumberland River. With temperatures hitting nearly 100°F, “Krollin’ Down the River” came together as a team and won first place in the C division, placing sixth overall.

Nashville Rescue Mission
On a rainy January night, 15 community service-minded employees of the Fraud Solutions practice volunteered at the Nashville Rescue Mission, where they helped feed about 300 of Nashville’s homeless.

"This was an incredible event as we were able to forget about identity theft for a quick minute and work together for the good of the community," said Fraud Solutions Chief Operating Officer Brian Lapidus.

Toys for Tots & Second Harvest Food Bank
In an effort to help those around us remember the people in our community who may not be as fortunate as we, the Background Screening division of Kroll worked with Toys for Tots and Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville, TN in December of 2007 to provide new books for the under privileged children of Nashville, as well as non-perishable food products to individuals in need within our community. In a similar effort in 2006, Kroll employees donated 2500 pounds of can goods to help our community!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee
By making a commitment as one of the sponsors for the 2008 Franklin Wine Festival, Kroll is supporting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. Our pledged support goes 100% toward benefitting the children in Middle Tennessee in need of a mentor. Kroll also served as sponsor for the organization’s 2007 event.
