Drug Testing Programs
Kroll's drug testing programs offer result reporting online, so your drug testing and background screening results are accessible via the same user-friendly platform. Kroll also offers Medical Review Officer (MRO) services and random drug testing administration.
Off-Site Urine Drug Testing
A standard urine drug screen offered by Kroll can test for five (5), nine (9), or ten (10) drugs. Regardless of which protocol you choose, the price remains the same. Included in the test is collection via a patient service center, testing at a certified lab, and chain of custody forms. An adulterants check, which tests for substances people ingest to mask the presence of drugs in their system, is also included at no additional charge. The five-panel test should be used for U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) testing with the addition of our MRO Service on all of your results.
Hair Drug Testing
The standard protocol tests for five (5) drugs in the hair sample, including Ecstasy. Hair samples, which provide a drug history over a 90-day period, may be collected on-site or by various collection sites. This program includes laboratory testing of the samples, chain of custody forms, and courier service. Hair test kits must be ordered separately.
Point of Collection Oral Fluid Drug Testing
Oral testing kits may be used for the non-invasive, instant detection of multiple drugs in human oral fluid. These devices help eliminate the need for special equipment, same-gender collections, and complicated training. Additionally, because oral fluid is difficult to alter or adulterate, the specimen’s integrity can be assured. As with all point of collection tests, initial positive indications should be shipped to a laboratory for GC/MS confirmation and include MRO review as a best practice.
Point of Collection Urine Drug Testing
Multiple point of collection urine testing devices are available depending on your needs. As with all point of collection tests, initial positive indications should be shipped to a laboratory for GC/MS confirmation and include MRO review as a best practice.
Oral Fluid Alcohol Test
This device is a rapid, highly sensitive method to test for alcohol in human oral fluid and can serve as a monitor for alcohol consumption. The simple, one-step test is a clean, non-invasive procedure that requires no instrumentation, calibration, or special training to be used effectively. Easy-to-interpret results are available in as little as two minutes. The device has built-in controls that monitor the testing process, and the individually wrapped test device can be stored at room temperature. Instant breath testing products that meet DOT standards are available, but initial positives must be followed up with a standard Breath Alcohol Test using an EBT device.
Medical Review Officer (MRO) Service
Kroll also offers MRO services for clinical interpretation of results by a licensed physician with certification and continuing education in substance abuse diagnostic work. The MRO service can be added to any of the programs. Non-DOT regulated clients can have MRO reviews conducted on only positive results (where permitted by state law), or, if you prefer (or as required by state law), on all results whether positive or negative. Our MRO will contact the donor to discuss pertinent information regarding his/her drug test result in order to rule out a possible positive which may have been caused by a prescription medication or other legitimate medical explanation. Once the MRO can confirm that a legitimate medical explanation exists, a result can be overturned and reported by the MRO to Kroll and then the employer. If no evidence is presented to the MRO to prove the result may have been caused by a reason other than an illegal drug, the MRO will report the result as is. MROs proactively attempt to reach donors and offer a 72-hour window for a donor to respond with evidence before they report the result as is.
Kroll highly recommends MRO review as a best practice as it helps ensure:
- Expertise – The employer is assured that every non-negative result released to it has undergone expert medical scrutiny and can therefore feel more comfortable making an employment decision based on the information. It is important to remember that without this service, employers may potentially face some liability when determining the legitimacy of a positive laboratory result.
- Confidentiality – The MRO's direct contact with the donor reduces the chances that the employer would be engaged in a potentially risky conversation involving personal health information with a current or prospective employee. The employer is involved in the process only in the event the MRO cannot reach the employee in a timely manner.
- Consistency – All non-negative test results for an organization are handled in the same manner, from how many times the MRO attempts contact with a donor to the amount of time the donor has to present information. A unified process can help reduce an employer’s exposure to certain litigation claims. Most employers find the additional cost for MRO services to be a nominal fee for the peace of mind it provides.
